The Short Version

We collect minimal data to make FlashRead work. We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. We use analytics to improve the app, not to track you across the internet.

What We Collect

Guest Users (no account):

• Your reading stats (WPM, scores, streaks) stored locally on your device
• Anonymous usage analytics (pages visited, features used)
• Error reports if something crashes

Registered Users (with account):

• Email address (for login)
• Authentication data from Google if you use Google Sign-In
• Your reading stats synced to our servers
• Anonymous usage analytics
• Error reports

How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Save and sync your reading progress
• Calculate your WPM and track improvement
• Maintain your streak across sessions
• Understand how people use the app so we can improve it
• Fix bugs and crashes
• Send important account-related emails (rarely)

We do NOT use your data to:

• Show you advertisements
• Sell to third parties
• Build marketing profiles
• Track you across other websites

Third-Party Services

We use these services to run FlashRead:

Supabase (Authentication & Database) — Stores your account and reading data. Privacy

PostHog (Analytics) — Tracks anonymous usage patterns. Privacy

Sentry (Error Tracking) — Captures crash reports and errors. Privacy

Vercel (Hosting) — Hosts the web version. Privacy

We've chosen these services because they have reasonable privacy practices and don't sell user data.

Data Retention

We keep your data as long as you have an account. If you delete your account, we'll delete your personal data within 30 days.

Anonymous analytics data may be retained longer in aggregate form.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data: Email us and we'll send you what we have
• Delete your data: Delete your account in Settings, or email us
• Export your data: Email us for a copy of your reading history
• Opt out of analytics: We're working on adding this option

Security

We use industry-standard security practices:

• HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
• Secure password hashing (handled by Supabase)
• OAuth for Google Sign-In (we never see your Google password)

No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your data.

Children

FlashRead is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us.

International Users

FlashRead is operated from the United States. If you're using the app from outside the US, your data may be transferred to and processed in the US.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We'll post the new version here with an updated date. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the app.
